Change Begins With The Dream

I’ve been writing, man and boy, for some forty-two years. Indeed, an indication of how ancient a ‘scribe’ I am lies in the fact that I began my love affair with words by pounding the keys on a manual portable typewriter as a copywriter for a local newspaper. I’ve considered myself blessed across the decades in that I’ve rarely slammed into that restrictive mental brick wall known as ‘writer’s block’, but I confess I’ve been so busy of late that I couldn’t find time until the dreaded eleventh hour to determine what the content of this month’s blog should consist of. Considering the phenomena of writer’s block provided me with the answer, however, because, on the few occasions when I have been, quite literally, lost for words, I’ve as a result found myself sitting, fingers poised above the keys, staring at a blank sheet of paper (remember paper?).

Hmmm... a blank piece of paper. A clean sheet. Something we are presented with each morning of our lives. Except for most of us it isn’t blank, is it? We begin new days with a sheet already crammed with our mental scribbles... expectations of how each day will unfold based on our past experience and our negative predictions regarding our current situations.

We often forget that, from a spiritual perspective, we can decide that that paper is blank at any time, that we are making a new start, and that we have the power to write a different kind of experience for ourselves today and every day. Here’s an abridged excerpt from Illumination - an exercise from Joseph to enable us to fill that clean sheet with positive things for ourselves and for the world...

Joseph: ‘You can change the dream at any time in your life, during any day...

‘I want you to put your hand on your wrist and feel your pulse and then I want you to tell yourself that you are healthy, your pulse is regular, you are feeling great and that there is, coming to you from God, a great deal of health on this particular day. That on this particular day everything will go right: everybody will speak to you nicely; everybody will treat you with respect; good things will happen to you; you will be free from aches and pains; with every breath you take you will be more invigorated.

‘I want you set off on this day with these things in mind and I guarantee that, if you leave your normal dream behind – if you invest in this little fantasy of mine for twenty four hours – you will feel so much better. Good things will come to you. The telephone will ring and somebody will make you feel good. Things will happen to you at work that will be positive. There will be a spring in your step. You will forget your imagined age; you will feel young again; you will feel energised.

‘Maybe some of you are currently terribly depressed, down, oppressed, and maybe you feel a day is an unimaginable length of time in which to feel good, in which to place your trust in things going well (rather than going wrong). Then try it for an hour - an hour in the morning, an hour in the afternoon and an hour before you go to bed. And for that hour say: I am taking time off from my normal dream to dream something different, something positive, and you will find by the end of that hour in the morning and the afternoon and the evening you will feel better despite yourself.

‘I say “despite yourself” because your physical being with all its might will fight against this new dream, will try to convince you that you are still ill, depressed, lacking. But your soul will jump for joy; your soul will be powered by your subconscious will for that hour by you reiterating: I am well. I have abundance. Everything is going right! You will find that your conscious mind is saying to you, I am still ill, but something within you, some spark within you, is saying, No, everything is right – I feel better.

‘To change things you have to first change yourself, because if you take into the greater dream your own personal dream of lack, doubt, ill-health, then how can you affect the greater dream other than in negative ways?

‘First you have to change your own sphere and then you enter the greater sphere – the greater pattern, the mesh, the Field of people’s thinking and beliefs – and you alter it because you have first altered yourself at a subconscious level, day-by-day, by believing in a better dream.

It is that simple!

‘You have to detach yourself from the concept of reality being ‘reality’... because it is not reality: it is always a dream, a construct – no matter what you see, feel, hear, smell or touch – it is a construct. It is not you! It is your belief manifest and your belief comes from yourself. It comes from your parents. It comes from the man that you pass in the street who says, You are looking tired today. It comes from your employer who says, You are not very good at this. It comes from your news programmes where you are told the world is running out of energy, that people are going to war and killing each other, that this is wrong with you, that is wrong with you, that you are going to suffer in this way and that way. And you take on board, absorb, build into your dream, images from the greater dream.

I am inviting you to build images outwards into the greater dream from your personal dream.

‘When you awaken – before you put your feet on the ground – see the day you want to have for yourself and for the world. See peace in the world. See peace in your own affairs: in your relationships with other people, in your relationships with your house, your office, your car, your kettle, every appliance, with the things you are sitting on, the things you walk on – see peace and harmony from them being brought to you. Expand your view towards your country and your world. See peace in your seats of government. Peace in troubled nations. Extend your vision to the Earth and see peace in the rocks, flowers, trees, the construction of the Earth and say to yourself: For today this dream is mine and no other dream shall enter it!

‘You have to be brave, you have to live the dream every day – is that not one of your advertising slogans: “live the dream”? You have to live your new dream, God’s dream for you, your dream for yourself – that everything is fine, everything is perfect – and build it into yourself day after day after day.

‘Expect immediate results but also be patient and loving with yourself and do not give up if, immediately, your day does not bring to you that ideal of the dream that you have put into it in the morning.

‘It will – little by little – it will!

‘You will build into yourself health, an understanding of yourself and your God; an understanding that what you see around you is not really there, is malleable, is able to be manipulated and changed. You are the dreamer!

‘Then, as you gradually change your frequency, your thoughts, beliefs and dreams will link up with similar dreams around the world – with the dreams of other men and women who are changing this world by being something different and dreaming a different dream. And little by little you will infiltrate the illusion of the Field and you will change it from within.

‘When enough people dream the dream of perfection, peace, holiness, Godliness - the Field will have no choice but to change because the majority of the thoughts that are feeding it will be infusing it with the dream of this better place.

‘If you want this world to change, you have to change it and the change begins with the dream.’

To sum up: when the ‘blank page’ of a new day presents itself, Joseph suggests we approach it as an opportunity to erase the scribbles of our past and create something positive and spiritual - for ourselves and for our world.

I, for one, am excited by the potential to create something better for myself and for others daily...

...What will you decide to write on the fabric of reality tomorrow morning?
